“Volunteering is at the very core of being a human. No one has made it through life without someone else’s help”…. Heather French Henry

As you read the pages of the Ribbons of Life Breast Cancer Foundation website, you will be amazed at all that has been accomplished by a small group of volunteers wanting to fill a need. What is most impressive, is that the projects, programs, events and organization has all been created by unpaid volunteers!

The Executive Board wants to recognize everyone from our community supporters and donors, to the telephone committee members and the welcoming hugs by those present at gatherings. Ribbons of Life can only exist through their efforts.

Jo Ann Kirkby, Create4Life & CLOCS Program Team LeaderJo Ann is a dedicated supporter of Ribbons of Life.  Due to ongoing health issues, part of her recovery and pain management is involvement with the arts.  Her love for learning and sharing the experience and benefits of the arts has prompted her to become a valued member of  RoL.

Jo Ann’s taking the lead in our Create4Life project has helped promote it’s growth and the creation of the Create4Life Studio.  Her personality and welcoming smile has generated a much beloved project for our thrivers/survivors.

Chuck Rogers, Professional Photographer

Chuck was RoL’s photographer for many years, taking photos of our BreastFests and many other events. He produced a beautiful body of work that is significant to our history and we thank him for his many years of dedicated service.

Karen L. Brown, Graphic Designer/ArtistKaren is the consummate re-entry student, who believes in the power of motivation, life long learning and personal responsibility.  Although none of her advanced degrees are in art, the arts have always played an important role in her life.  Throughout her career as a Health Education Professor and Recreation Therapist, she has incorporated her love for design.  She used the arts with children and adults in community settings and with special populations in institutional settings.

Karen’s involvement with the arts bloomed during her semi retirement years.  She is active within the Ventura art community and plays an important role as the graphic designer for Ribbons of Life.

Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in….Anonymous
